The Texas Speed Super I-Beam 6.125" Connecting Rods are part of the Texas Speed line of LS connecting rods, machined from heat-treated and stress-relieved 4340 steel and fitted with ARP L19 rod bolts. Texas Speed positions them as the upgrade over a standard H-beam rod for engines aimed at 900 to 1,200 flywheel horsepower. Each rod weighs about 667 grams, and they are sold as a set of eight.

During manufacturing each rod is torqued and rough honed, then the bolts are removed and the rod and cap are separated so residual stress can release. The rod is reassembled, re-torqued and final honed so the bore is still round when it is installed in the engine. Texas Speed lists the rods for Gen III LS 4.8L through 6.0L, Gen IV LS 6.0L and 6.2L, the LS7, and Gen V L83, L84, L82, LT1, L86, L87 and LT4 engines. Blocks with piston oil squirters may require some clearancing on the rods.

    FAQ

What is the difference between the Texas Speed Super I-Beam and Super H-Beam rods?

Both are 6.125" rods made from heat-treated, stress-relieved 4340 steel with ARP L19 bolts. Texas Speed rates the Super H-Beam for up to 900 flywheel horsepower and recommends the Super I-Beam as the upgrade for builds targeting 900 to 1,200 flywheel horsepower.

What engines do the Super I-Beam 6.125" rods fit?

    Texas Speed lists them for Gen III LS 4.8L, 5.3L, 5.7L and 6.0L, Gen IV LS 6.0L and 6.2L, the LS7, and the Gen V L83, L84, L82, LT1, L86, L87 and LT4 engines. They use a .927" wrist pin.

How are the Texas Speed I-Beam rods machined?

Each rod is torqued and rough honed, then the bolts are removed and the cap is separated to release residual stress. The rod is reassembled, re-torqued and final honed so the big end bore stays round once the rod is installed in the engine.

How much does a Texas Speed Super I-Beam rod weigh?

Texas Speed lists the Super I-Beam 6.125" rod at 667 grams, which is heavier than the 626 to 630 gram Super H-Beam, reflecting the extra material in the I-beam section for higher-horsepower use.

Do these rods need clearancing for oil squirters?

Texas Speed notes that blocks utilizing piston oil squirters may require some clearancing on the connecting rods. Check squirter-to-rod clearance during trial assembly.
