The Texas Speed Chopacabra 5.7L Hemi Camshaft brings the Chopacabra idle to the Gen III Hemi. It is a 214/228 duration grind with .527"/.522" lift on a tight 108 degree lobe separation angle, designed to run on the factory valve springs and the factory torque converter so a 5.7L Hemi owner can get a loud, choppy idle without a full valvetrain overhaul.
Texas Speed measured a gain of 43 horsepower and 11 lb-ft of torque at the crank on a stock 5.7L with the truck intake manifold and short runner valve, stock heads, an MDS and VVT delete and TSP 2" headers. A Texas Speed MDS delete kit and a cam phaser lockout must be purchased with this camshaft. Factory springs are acceptable, but Texas Speed recommends replacing springs with a PAC or Manton spring kit on engines over 75,000 miles.

FAQ
What engine does the Texas Speed Chopacabra Hemi Cam fit?
The Chopacabra Hemi camshaft is ground for the 5.7L Gen III Hemi with variable valve timing, as used in Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and Ram vehicles. Texas Speed lists it for 5.7L engines at 10.5:1 or higher compression.
Do I need new valve springs with the Chopacabra 5.7L Hemi cam?
Not necessarily. Texas Speed designed the .527"/.522" lift to work with the factory valve springs. On engines with more than 75,000 miles, Texas Speed recommends replacing them with a PAC or Manton spring kit.
What else must be purchased with this camshaft?
Texas Speed requires an MDS delete kit and a cam phaser lockout with this camshaft. The dyno test engine also ran an MDS and VVT delete, so plan on both parts and a tune.
Does the Chopacabra Hemi cam need a stall converter?
No. Texas Speed designed it to be factory converter friendly, and no upgraded rear gear is required either, which keeps it practical for a daily-driven Challenger, Charger or Ram.
How much power does the Chopacabra 5.7L Hemi camshaft add?
Texas Speed measured 43 horsepower and 11 lb-ft of torque at the crank on a stock 5.7L with the truck intake and SRV, stock heads, MDS/VVT delete and TSP 2" headers. The main appeal is the aggressive chop with drivability intact.
How does the Chopacabra compare to the Texas Speed BFD Chop Monster Hemi cam?
The Chopacabra is the milder of the two: 214/228 duration on .527"/.522" lift that runs on stock springs and a stock converter. The BFD Chop Monster is 220/230 on .582" lift with a 110 LSA and requires aftermarket springs, pushrods and at least a 2800 stall converter.
