The Texas Speed 4.8L/5.3L NSR RV Camshaft is a modern take on the classic small block RV cam, designed specifically for 4.8L and 5.3L LS truck engines. The goal is maximum low-end torque for towing, off-road use and daily driving, with no loss of reliability. Because it belongs to the Texas Speed NSR (No Springs Required) family, it runs on the factory LS valve springs and stock pushrods, which keeps the install simple and the cost down.

The grind measures 208/216 duration at .050", .495" lift and a 110 degree lobe separation angle with a 107 degree intake centerline (110 plus 3). Texas Speed estimates a gain of up to 40 horsepower with a powerband concentrated in low-end and mid-range torque. The mild overlap gives a smooth idle, and the cam works with the factory 4L60E or 4L80E torque converter, so no stall converter is needed. A custom tune is required after installation.

    FAQ

What engines does the Texas Speed NSR RV cam fit?

Texas Speed designed the TSP-NSR-RV-5.3 specifically for 4.8L and 5.3L LS truck engines, such as those in 1999 to 2013 Silverado and Sierra 1500 and 2000 to 2014 Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon. Texas Speed sells a separate 6.0L version (TSP-NSR-RV-6.0).

Do I need new valve springs or pushrods with the NSR RV camshaft?

No. NSR stands for No Springs Required. Texas Speed designed this cam to work with the stock LS valve springs and stock pushrods, so no valvetrain upgrades are needed.

Will the NSR RV cam work with my factory torque converter?

Yes. Texas Speed states the cam retains the stock converter and works with the factory 4L60E or 4L80E transmission, so no stall converter is required.

Is the NSR RV cam good for towing?

Yes. The 208/216 grind is built for low-end and mid-range torque, which Texas Speed says puts the gain right where a truck pulling a trailer uses it most, with a smooth, daily-driver-friendly idle.

How much power does the 4.8L/5.3L NSR RV cam add?

Texas Speed estimates a gain of up to 40 horsepower on a 4.8L or 5.3L LS truck engine, with the biggest improvement in low-end torque. Results vary with intake, exhaust and tuning.

Is a tune required after installing the NSR RV camshaft?

Yes. A custom tune is required after any camshaft swap so the engine idles and runs correctly with the new profile.
