The Texas Speed L83 / L84 5.3L 3-Bolt Camshaft Kit is built for owners converting a 2014 and newer Gen V 5.3L truck or SUV engine away from the factory VVT and DOD/AFM systems to a traditional fixed three-bolt camshaft. Removing VVT and AFM lets Texas Speed run more aggressive lobe profiles than a factory-style cam allows, which it reports produces stronger midrange and top-end power while keeping the engine drivable.
The kit combines the buyer's choice of Texas Speed Stage 1, 2 or 3 L83 3-bolt non-VVT camshaft with the Texas Speed Gen V .660" dual valve spring kit, which uses PAC springs, titanium retainers and PRC integrated seat and seal, and a set of 16 3/8" hardened chromoly pushrods in the selected length. A Texas Speed Gen V LT VVT delete kit is required and is sold separately, as is a DOD/AFM delete kit if the engine has not already been converted. Pushrod length should be verified during installation, and custom tuning is required.

Kit Includes
- Texas Speed L83 3-bolt camshaft, Stage 1, 2 or 3, no VVT (selected at ordering)
- Texas Speed Gen V LT1/L83/L86 .660" dual spring kit with PAC springs, titanium retainers and PRC integrated seat/seal (TSP-LT1660SpringKit)

Ordering Options
Two selections are required when ordering: the camshaft (Texas Speed Stage 1, Stage 2 or Stage 3 L83 3-bolt, no VVT) and the pushrod length (7.825", 7.850" or 7.875"). A rocker arm trunnion upgrade (Texas Speed trunnion upgrade or CHE LS/LT trunnion kit) can be added or declined. The Texas Speed Gen V LT VVT delete kit is required for any 3-bolt camshaft and is not part of this kit, and a Gen V DOD/AFM delete kit is required if the engine still has AFM.
Note: All Gen V L83 engines have VVT and DOD/AFM from the factory. A 3-bolt camshaft requires a VVT delete conversion, and every camshaft upgrade requires removal of the DOD/AFM system. Professional installation and tuning are required.
Note: Pushrod length should always be verified during installation. A camshaft with a +32% fuel lobe requires a lash cap and must not be used with an LT4 fuel pump.

FAQ
What is included in the Texas Speed L83 / L84 3-bolt cam kit?
The kit includes your choice of Texas Speed Stage 1, 2 or 3 L83 3-bolt non-VVT camshaft, the Texas Speed Gen V .660" dual spring kit with PAC springs, titanium retainers and PRC integrated seat and seal, and a set of 16 3/8" hardened chromoly pushrods in the length you select. An optional trunnion upgrade can be added.
Do I need a VVT delete kit to use this cam kit?
Yes. All Gen V L83 and L84 engines have VVT from the factory, and a 3-bolt camshaft requires converting to a fixed cam gear with the Texas Speed Gen V LT VVT delete kit, which is sold separately.
Does the DOD / AFM system have to be removed too?
Yes. Texas Speed states every Gen V camshaft upgrade requires removal of the DOD/AFM system. If the engine has not already been converted, a Texas Speed Gen V DOD delete kit is required in addition to this cam kit.
Which vehicles does the L83 / L84 3-bolt cam kit fit?
It fits 2014 and newer GM 5.3L L83 and L84 engines in the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon. Texas Speed sells a separate 3-bolt kit for the 6.2L LT1 and L86.
Why go to a 3-bolt camshaft on a Gen V 5.3L?
Eliminating VVT and AFM allows more aggressive camshaft profiles than a factory-style phaser cam supports. Texas Speed reports its Gen V L83 3-bolt cams deliver stronger midrange and top-end power across the rpm range while remaining drivable.
Is tuning required after installing this kit?
Yes. Custom tuning is required after installation to run the non-VVT camshaft and to disable the deleted VVT and AFM functions. Texas Speed also recommends professional installation and verifying pushrod length on the engine.
